Every Sandy Saints team must have a registered Coach. This is a vital volunteer role, and our domestic program simply couldn’t run without the commitment of our coaches.

Coach registration

Step 1: Obtain Your Team’s Unique Registration Link

Once your team is registered with the club, a unique PlayHQ registration link will be provided. You’ll need this link to register as the Coach for your team.

Step 2: Create or Log In to Your PlayHQ Account

If you don’t already have a PlayHQ account: Go to PlayHQ and click Sign up. Enter your personal details and create a password.
Verify your account via the confirmation email. If you already have an account, just log in.

Step 3: Register as a Coach

Using the team’s unique registration link: Log in to your PlayHQ account.
Select the Coach role. Enter your details and complete the registration process.

Step 4: Meet Compliance Requirements

To be eligible to coach, you must complete the following Child Safety and Compliance Requirements before the season begins:

Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Basketball Victoria Member Declaration
Play by the Rules – Child Protection Course
Play by the Rules – Harassment and Discrimination Course
These requirements are listed in the SBA By-Laws.

Note: Coaches who are not fully compliant before the start of the season may render their team ineligible to participate in games.

Coach Discount

If you’re a parent coach, the club offers a discount on the Sandy Saints club registration fee for the relevant season. See our Fees page for more information.

Coach Training Sessions

The SBA runs Coaches Training Sessions at the start of each season. These sessions provide great insights into: Effective coaching principles. Engaging players and building team culture. Useful drills and practice tips. Sandy Saints will share session dates and registration details with all coaches prior to the season start. We highly recommend attending—especially for new coaches!

Volunteer Role

The club does not provide coaches. All coaches are volunteers—usually a parent from within the team. If your team is unable to find a coach, we may be able to help identify and introduce a potential coach. This would be at the expense of the team, and availability is not guaranteed.

Why Coaching Matters

Coaches are absolutely essential to junior basketball. But more than that, coaching is a wonderful opportunity to:

Be involved in your child’s sport.
Develop leadership and mentorship skills.
Give back to your community.

Whether you’re new to coaching or a returning volunteer, we’re grateful to have you on the team.
